Located in the Heart of Sabah, Deramakot Forest Reserve (DRF) is a hidden gem. It has been documented that about 75% of mammals in Sabah can be found within this forest reserve including Orangutans, Pygmy Elephants, Tembadau (Banteng), Proboscis Monkey and the Clouded Leopards.
Deramakot Forest Reserve is the first natural tropical rainforest in the world to be certified as “well-managed” by the Forest Stewardship Council. This 55,507 hectare forest has also earned the rare distinction for being the longest certified rainforest in the world by the Forest Stewardship Council since 1997. Among the activities that you can experience are jungle trekking, morning walks (the forest is amazing in the morning), wildlife safaris as well as wildlife photography.

Day 1: Sandakan - Telupid - Deramakot
Lunch and Dinner are provided on Day 1
- Pickup from hotel/airport in Sandakan and transfer to Telupid. Deramakot is located approximately 190 kilometres from Sandakan.
- Arriving Telupid at approximately 13:00
- Lunch will be served (included as part of tour package)
- 14:00 Depart Telupid for a 2-hour journey to Deramakot Forest Reserve
- Four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles are used for this stretch of the journey on approximately 70 km.
- Expected arrival at 16:00 - dependent on road and weather conditions
- Check in to Deramakot Lodge upon arrival.
- Proceed to first activity which is the presentation of sustainable logging in Deramakot to allow guests to have a better understanding of the natural forest management in Sabah. (0.5 hours)
- Dinner will served (included as part of the tour package)
- Night Drive Safari to discover various nocturnal wildlife species in the wild (2 hours)
- Return to your chalets for good night's rest

Day 2: Deramakot Forest Reserve
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are provided on Day 2
- Early morning drive in the green forest to search and observe various wildlife species such as wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants and clouded leopards (3 Hours)
- Return to the lodge for breakfast (included as part of tour package)
- After breakfast, proceed to Jungle Trekking to which includes the Ecology trail as well as Domingo’s management trail.
- Lunch will be provided at the lodge (included as part of tour package)
- Leisure time
- 16:30 Drive to to Balat
- Dinner will be served in Balat (included as part of tour package)
- Final night drive activity for more opportunities to observe and search for various nocturnal wildlife species (2 hours)
- Back to Deramakot Lodge for a good night's rest

Day 3: Deramakot - Telupid - Sandakan
Breakfast is provided on Day 3
- Early morning breakfast in the lodge
- Depart Deramakot, back to Sandakan Airport or hotel lobby (Sandakan Town Area only)
